She may be turning into a foodie.

I like how excited she gets about stuff.

I just wanted to share this video of her, I’ll include a transcript soon.

Chemo

I went with my mom to chemo for the first time today. It was her third week going. When we walked into the room, a young lady off to the side was having an adverse reaction and was in tears. She quietly complained of being in pain. And my mom’s face went from calm to absolute panic. She didn’t have to say it – she was afraid that could happen to her. My sister-in-law jumped into action and placed herself at my mom’s side. She reassured her and reminded my mom of her positive progress. Luckily, the environment relaxed once the girl was back to normal.

She received a cocktail (which according to her, made her super drunk) and slowly drifted off to sleep. She looked so peaceful, especially when she was snoring. Afterwards, we went to Islands. I have never seen my mom eat a hamburger like that… no whining about the calories or cholesterol. Just eating. She looked so tired but ate everything, even dipping into my thousand island dressing.

I <3 my mom.

Sunny and *cough cough

I only saw my mom briefly today and not at all yesterday. This blows. I’m sick and when you combine that with a past of smoking, well, it isn’t pretty. I went outside to give Belle her doggy medicine and I caught my mom outside. She was walking along the edge of the grass, looking up at the lemon tree. This tree has been here since I can remember (at least 20 years). She looked so… hopeful. Maybe she was daydreaming. Since we couldn’t actually hug, we hugged from afar. She stretched out her arms and I stretched out mine, We each ended this “hug” by wrapping our arms around ourselves like it was the other giving the hug. She insisted on making me some tea to help my throat. But I convinced her it was okay, I had already had some tea (it was a lie). Just like that, she went inside the house.

We’re suppose to have company over in a bit for a BBQ. She probably won’t be outside for too long. Not going to lie; the moment she goes inside, so will I. She knows how I feel about crowds (doesn’t matter if you are family). I want to cuddle with her. Usually when I’m sick, I can lay my head on her lap and she’ll softly stroke my head. Because, you know, she’s my mom.

Angry Birds

Teresa always talks about technology like it is the devil. Like, she literally calls it "un brujo” (a witch). Today, Sam and I showed her the magic of Apple products. After settling down on either side of her, he wowed her with the iPad while I attempted to steal the show with my iPhone. And then there was Angry Birds.

Turns out she’s better at it than me.

Then we showed her how she could see her mother’s home in Guadalajara with Google Maps. AND THEN I showed her an app that prays the rosary along with you in Spanish. Yea. She’s hooked. Apple: 1; Doing shit the old fashioned way: 0.
